The vagina is a tubular and muscular part of the woman’s genital tract, which in human beings stretches from the cervix to the vulva. In the following article, we are going to show you different parts of a vagina. Just read on to learn more.
1. The Vulva
This is the outer part of a woman’s genital. It includes the clitoris, mons pubis, labia minora, labia majora, vulval vestibule, bulb vestibule, urinary meatus, the vaginal opening, and the greater and lesser vestibular glands. Other features of this part include pubic hair, sebaceous glands, the pudendal cleft and the urogenital triangle.
The labia are folds of the skin which surround the opening a vagina. They are inner and outer folds of the skin, on either side of the vagina. They differ in shapes, color, size, and texture. In human, there are of two types namely the inner labia (labia minora) and the outer labia (labia majora). The labia minora, commonly known as the vaginal lips, inner lips or inner labia are two flaps of skin on the vaginal opening. The function of both the inner labia and outer labia is to protect the openings of the vagina, the clitoris, and the urethra.
The clitoris is a tiny sensitive part of the vagina, found at the anterior end of the vulva above the labia minor. This part is very delicate during sexual intercourse. It is the primary source of female sexual pleasure.
Located below the clitoris and slightly above the vagina opening, the urethra is a small outlet let out urine from the body. This little outlet is also where fluids leave the body, especially during ejaculation. It also acts as a breeding ground of genital infections such as the urinary tract infection (UTI). This is one of the reasons why doctors recommend weeing immediately after sexual intercourse.
The vagina is the muscular tube that leads from the vulva to the cervix of the uterus. It acts as the receptacle for the penis during sex or as the birth canal. A normal vaginal canal ranges from three inches to four. These sizes may seem short as compared to the penis. However, during sexual intercourse, a woman’s arousal makes the cervix lift upwards making the fornix extend upwards and inwards to receive the penis.
Also, there is the G-Spot which is location inside the frontal wall of the vagina.
This is the opening to the uterus. Cervixes vary in diameter, usually from1 to 3 millimeters. This part it is often plugged with cervical mucus that to protect it from infection during ovulation. This mucus finally turns into a thin fluid that permits the flow of sperm.
Also known as the womb, the uterus is the primary internal organ of a female reproductive system. This part has an inner lining called the endometrium that grows and changes during the menstrual cycle so as to prepare to receive a fertilized egg. It sheds a layer at the end of every menstrual cycle when fertilization fails to happen. It has powerful muscles that help push the child out during labor.
